Summary

In 2020, Prof. Kerry Arabena the Managing Director of First 1000 Days Australia and the Karabena Group facilitated a First 1000 Days Australia workshop to understand what kinds of initiatives could be done to support families access knowledge and supports through their first 1000 days. Deb Mellett, a First 1000 Days Australia Council member and supporter, brought together staff and community members to discuss a series of interventions that could be completed with the community. This work has been impacted by COVID, so much of the work has been done remotely.

 

Provide access to the Self Care Course for families impacted on by COVID, created with our sister company Karabena.

Provide access to the staff in Peninsula Health and in other health and early childhood centres with the opportunity to participate in the online course.

Develop affirmation cards to support families access information and day to day messages.

Develop an online parent coaching course.

Develop a father’s calendar to promote our men, our shields.

Methodologies

 

We have been able to support people access the self-care course for free, there is now a cost to the course.

We developed affirmation cards for the Djambana group.

We have a few more project outcomes to achieve before we are completely finished with the project, but are waiting for a suitable time to  do face to face work so we can engage with parents and their babies.
