We are excited to share with you the recent outcomes of our First 1000 Days Australia (F1000DA) two-day training course in our Evaluation Report. This course brought together professionals from various fields, all dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families during their child’s critical first 1000 days.
In December 2022, the Victorian Government Department of Health provided a generous funding of $250,000 to deliver F1000DA training and coaching to service providers across Victoria. These courses were run in March, May and June of 2023. With online coaching and regional planning to come to ensure a positive impact is being made.
In April, 2023, Kerry and team members went to Tasmania to run courses for Connected Beginnings staff in Hobart and Burnie. It was rewarding to take our course interstate again for the first time in 2023.
In May, 2023, Kerry ran the course for staff members and partners of Mornington Peninsula Shire at the beautiful location of Safety Beach Sail Club, check out our social media to see the gorgeous view for the two day course. This was followed up with Regional Planning Day to put their ideas into action. Together, they developed the Preparing for the Treaty Generation Activation Plan, a guide that encourages shared vision, trust, and commitment to creating lasting systems changes for First Nations children.
Across all the courses, totaling seven in the first half of 2023, we had attendees from a range of professionals, including, Maternal and Child Health Nurses, social workers, practitioners, nurses, health promoters, policy makers, program designers, Aboriginal community workers, and healthcare providers. It was a true melting pot of talent!
At the end of the course participants were asked to give feedback, we are proud of the course and to read this feedback warms our hearts:
"The course has given me such a diverse set of tools and skills that I can take back to my organisation."
"I was expecting a program but learnt that it is actually a movement from the heart."
"This course is the first time I have felt inspired to not only make change, but be the change, since I graduated my social work degree 4 years ago."
"Kerry, your brain, wisdom, humour, authenticity and years + years of knowledge has absolutely blown me away."
"This course provides a space for the community of practice, sharing ideas and experiences with like-minded professionals & practitioners."
F1000DA believes in the power of collective impact and community-driven change. The goal? To ensure that every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child from conception to age two, has improved health, educational, developmental, and social outcomes. By fostering collaboration and shared learning among professionals from diverse backgrounds, we've created a platform for effective strategies and initiatives to positively impact the lives of First Nations children.
